Acupuncture Treatment- coming soon to AMT Physiotherapy
Acupuncture, as an area of treatment, is something that I have always wanted to explore. Therefore, I am absolutely delighted to announce that I have been accepted onto the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, Foundation course. The long term aim is to be qualified to - where appropriate- treat patients using acupuncture.
The AACP

The AACP is the largest professional body for acupuncture in the UK; a membership organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists, practicing medical acupuncture. We form the association for the practice of evidence based, western medical acupuncture in physiotherapy. We represent our members with Law Makers, the Public, NHS and Private Health Insurers."
Why Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an adjunct to physiotherapy, it is not a replacement for exercise, education or other rehabilitation. Nevertheless, it is a great addition to my clinic, in that it is another option to help patients with short term pain relief, alongside other approaches to rehabilitation.
Acupuncture is most commonly considered for:
Musculoskeletal pain, such as neck pain, low-back pain, shoulder pain, or knee pain.
Myofascial pain, where muscle and surrounding tissues are contributing to symptoms.
Some persistent/chronic pain conditions, particularly when exercise or other rehabilitation is difficult because of pain.
As part of a broader treatment programme involving exercise, education, movement rehabilitation and self-management—rather than as the sole treatment.
My Course
The next available course for me is in Manchester in January. It is a 300 hour programme to become a physiotherapist who can use acupuncture as a treatment. My aim is to work on the course and offer the acupuncture treatment as soon as possible within the Consett clinic.
